Seven things that turn an empty cupboard into dinner

The shortest route from "there is nothing in" to a meal, and what each one unlocks.

Fill your kitchen on this site with the seven things below and the recipe finder
goes from polite to genuinely useful. They are cheap, they keep for months, and
between them they are the backbone of a surprising number of dinners.

  1. Tinned chopped tomatoes. The base of most things.
  2. Tinned chickpeas. Dinner in themselves at a push.
  3. Red lentils. Thirty minutes from packet to something soft and filling.
  4. Onions and garlic. Almost every savoury recipe starts here.
  5. Olive oil. Assumed in your kitchen already, which is why we never count
    it as missing.
  6. Cumin, coriander and smoked paprika. The difference between beans and a
    meal.
  7. Frozen spinach or peas. Vegetables that do not rot while you decide.

Add those and try the finder again. Set the shopping tolerance to zero and see
what comes back.
